Artist and philanthropist Dr Simon Suen recently presented Synchronicity (《遇》), a solo exhibition at Hong Kong’s West Kowloon Cultural District. Curated by Dr. Faye Tong, the exhibition brought together more than one hundred and twenty new works. Over five years Suen has produced a substantial body of paintings; this selection continued that sustained practice. The works combine Eastern ink brushwork with Western techniques, moving across acrylic and oil on canvas and board, ink and colour on paper, mixed media, monoprints and acrylic-board ink. Subjects range from natural landscapes to quieter reflections on the inner world. The title suggests encounters that share the same moment and space. The exhibition followed earlier solo presentations in Shanghai in 2024 and Beijing in 2025.
Through the support of the Simon Suen Foundation, AISL Harrow Centre of Excellence in Arts and Design, in collaboration with AISL Harrow International School Shanghai, is taking shape. Connections are being formed with international arts institutions, creative professionals and philanthropic partners, with a view to creating opportunities for young artists across the AISL Harrow network. In a related development, a team led by Professor Xu Yingqing of Tsinghua University’s Academy of Arts & Design and the Tsinghua Future Lab visited the AISL Foundation office. Professor Xu’s research addresses information art and design, immersive and tactile interaction, and the digitisation of cultural heritage. The meeting opened a further line of exchange between the Centre and creative programmes.
