Princeton University representative visited AISL Harrow Schools in Hengqin, Hong Kong and Shenzhen Qianhai
AISL Foundation, in collaboration with four AISL Harrow Schools in Hengqin, Hong Kong, and Qianhai, welcomed Professor Shamus Rahman Khan, Willard Thorp Professor of Sociology and American Studies and Director of Undergraduate Studies at Princeton University, for a series of insightful seminars on 6 and 9 March 2026.
Professor Khan, who previously served as Professor and Chair of Sociology at Columbia University, is a distinguished scholar and author of over 130 works. His research focuses on culture, inequality, gender, and elites. He contributes regularly to prominent publications, including The New York Times, The Washington Post, The New Yorker, and Time Magazine. His 2011 highly sought after book, Privilege: The Making of an Adolescent Elite at St. Paul’s School, provides an inside look at how one of the country’s most elite private schools prepares its students for success, was reprinted in 2021 and translated into Mandarin Chinese as well.
The Harrow seminars explored key themes including adolescent well-being, and the role of schooling in social achievement, mobility, and student leadership development. These topics resonated strongly with the audience, drawing insights from Professor Khan’s expertise in sociology and education.
“My first trip to China and Harrow Schools has been a remarkable experience. Engaging with friends of AISL Harrow Schools across Hengqin, Hong Kong, and Shenzhen enabled me to learn firsthand how the mission of Nurturing Talents For Good is woven into the fabric of everyday school life.
The values of courage, honour, humility and fellowship are not merely words on a wall — they are alive in the thoughtful questions students raised at every distinctive campus. And it is this combination — talent cultivated not for personal gain alone, but for good — that makes the AISL Harrow family and its network of partners truly distinctive.”
The events were well attended by more than 500 Upper School teachers, students, and parents from the three AISL Harrow Schools. The seminars provided valuable perspectives on navigating contemporary challenges in education amid rapid technological advancements.
